About Our Door Fitting & Hanging Services
Door fitting and hanging is one of those jobs that looks simple but has plenty of ways to go wrong. A door that doesn’t hang square, closes on the latch but springs back open, or drops over time and starts binding on the frame are all avoidable with proper technique. We get it right first time – whether that’s a single sticking door or a full house of new internal doors after a renovation.
Our Door Fitting & Hanging Services
We cover everything from new door installations to repairs and adjustments. At LC Carpentry we specialise in:
New Door Installation
Hanging new internal and external doors with precise measurement, correct hinge placement, and proper hardware installation – set up to work smoothly from day one and stay that way.
Repairs & Adjustments
Fixing sticking or dropping doors, adjusting alignment, planing to size after seasonal movement, replacing worn hinges, and resolving latching issues – properly diagnosed and properly fixed.
Frames, Linings & Hardware
Installing new door frames and linings, fitting architraves and door stops, and sourcing or fitting handles, locks, bolts, and all associated hardware to a professional standard.

Why Choose LC Carpentry for Your Door Fitting?
Our Surrey carpentry team has been hanging doors for over 20 years, with City & Guilds qualifications underpinning the work. Most door problems – dropping, sticking, failing to latch – are the result of incorrect hinge placement or inadequate frame preparation. We diagnose the actual cause and fix it properly rather than planing a little off the edge and hoping for the best.
- City & Guilds qualified with 20+ years of door fitting and hanging experience
- Works with all door types – internal, external, fire doors, bi-fold, and sliding
- Happy to fit doors you’ve already purchased, or advise and source on your behalf
- Experience across period properties where frames are rarely square or plumb
Door Fitting & Hanging Across Surrey
Based in Fetcham, just 5 minutes from Leatherhead and junction 9 of the M25, we’re perfectly placed to serve the whole of Surrey – from Esher and Oxshott in the north to Godalming and Haslemere in the south.
We carry out door fitting across a wide range of Surrey properties. Newer homes in Cobham and Weybridge often need a full set of internal doors hanging as part of a renovation or extension, while older period properties in Guildford and Dorking regularly need sticking or dropping doors sorted – where frames have moved over the years and doors need careful diagnosis rather than a quick plane. Both are jobs we handle regularly.

Frequently Asked Questions About Door Fitting & Hanging
What types of doors can you fit and hang?
We fit and hang all types of internal and external doors – panel doors, glazed doors, solid core, hollow core, fire doors, bi-fold doors, and sliding doors. For external doors we cover front doors, back doors, French doors, and stable doors. We work with standard and non-standard sizes, and can handle both new installations and replacements in existing frames.
Can you fix a door that’s sticking or won’t close properly?
Yes, and it’s one of the most common jobs we get called out for. Sticking and dropping doors usually have a specific cause – worn or incorrectly fitted hinges, seasonal timber movement, a frame that’s shifted, or a door that was never hung quite right in the first place. We identify the root cause before doing anything, because planing material off a door that’s actually dropped on its hinges will leave you with a gap problem as well as a sticking one.
Do you install door frames and linings as well as doors?
Yes. We provide the full installation – new frame or lining, door stop, architraves on both sides, and the door itself hung within it. This is particularly relevant when you’re creating a new opening, replacing a damaged frame, or fitting doors into a newly plastered renovation where no frame exists yet. We can also modify existing frames to accommodate a different door size or style.
How long does it take to fit and hang a door?
A straightforward internal door replacement in an existing frame is typically two to four hours. A new installation including frame and lining work might take a full day. External doors or jobs with non-standard openings can take longer. For multiple doors – a whole house after a renovation, for instance – we’ll scope the job properly and give you a realistic timeframe at the quote stage.
Can you fit a door I’ve already bought?
Yes. Many customers source their own doors and we’re happy to fit them. It’s worth letting us know what you’ve bought before you collect it if possible – we can flag any compatibility issues with your existing frames and advise on things like hinge spec and whether you’ll need any frame modifications. If there are problems, it’s much easier to sort them before the door is in your hallway.
Do you supply handles, locks, and hinges or should I provide them?
Either works. We can source and supply hardware, or fit hardware you’ve chosen and purchased yourself. If you’re supplying your own, it’s worth a quick conversation with us first – hinge weight ratings, lock backset dimensions, and handle spindle lengths all need to match the door and frame. Getting these right before the installation day saves time and avoids a trip to the hardware shop mid-job.
